UFV Cascades split weekend soccer matches against future Canada West schools


Defeat TRU Wolfpack, 7-0, fall to UBC-O Heat, 3-2


Abbotsford, BC….The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s soccer team kicked off their 2013 preseason exhibition schedule with a trip to Kamloops and Kelowna to face two of the future three Canada West soccer programs that will enter the conference in September, 2014.  The Cascades defeated the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack, 7-0, on Saturday and fell to the UBC-O Heat, 3-2,  on Sunday.

The Cascades received goals from four different players as Justin Sekhon, Abbotsford, BC, Connor MacMillan, New Westminster, BC  and Daniel Davidson, Abbotsford, BC each scored twice in the victory over TRU.  Connor O’Neill, Abbotsford, BC added a single goal to round out the scoring.  Arturo Ortiz, Veracruz, Mexico earned the shutout victory in the Cascade net facing his old school in Kamloops.  He recorded four saves in the match.

“A great start to the pre-season. A Very solid performance by everyone on the pitch, said UFV head coach Alan Errington.

On Sunday, the University of British Columbia-Okanagan Heat defeated the Cascades, 3-2, with a goal midway through the second half.    UFV opened the scoring two minutes in as Trevor O’Neill, Abbotsford, BC converted a UFV corner kick.  Second year striker Dalibor Plavsic, Coquitlam, BC scored the second Cascade goal early in the second half.  Veteran goalkeeper Mark Village, Abbotsford, BC  made three saves in the loss to the Heat.

“UBC-O would take advantage of some individual mistakes to score three goals to win the game. A good hard game for us with a few tired legs, still a good performance although the result was not in our favor, commented Errington.
